AI Lightning storm with sound

Lol I had been doing the same thing, now the next question is how do I DIY that? I'm in the planning stages for my LEDs and it just got a bit more complicated. I think it would be absolutely amazing to be chillin watching the boob toob and have a random thunderstorm start in my living room!

From the couple of videos I've watched they seem to be fairly calm, I don't think that storms typically are that dramatic in a real reef but to have the sounds and then a toned down lightning storm in conjunction with like a mp40 just rocking some serious surge would be neato.

Reefboarder- That is a genius idea. If I had the money to do all that, I so would and name the program after you...lol.

Perhaps Im strange but that is totally useless to me. I simulate a storm in my tanks by hand. Every time I scrape algae. Storms on the reef are more about stirring things up than a strobe light show. As much as I want to debate the benefit of a flash lightning on corals and other reef fauna I can not get over the fact that the storm has a much more significant impact on the reef with the waves and maybe freshwater rain.

Fish on the reef do not continue to swim around, eat and act fine during a storm with that kind of lighting.

Although being a geek I love the feature.

The fish don't seem phased by this. It's kinda cool but useless imo
I know my fish can tell when a real thunderstorm is on the way, everybody in the tank gets restless.

I totally don't disagree with it not having any actual benefits other than if you did it in conjunction with a powerhead "storm". The lightning and sound would be all for my pleasure. The thunder and sound of rain with the flashes over a darkened reef would just be very cool IMO, and totally useless for the tank itself.

If you guys want to see the best storm simulation on a reef aquarium, take a look... this german LFS (HP Aquaristik) took it to the next level. :D

We’ve all seen several LED systems simulation lightning over reef tanks, but this HP Aquaristik system is just so much better. Designed with the goal of replicating nature, this system simulates cloud cover with LEDs which are individually controlled and dimmed. Rather than providing a fixed intensity throughout the ON period of the lighting cycle, this system outputs varied degrees of power over the different zones.

Next comes a true thunderstorm! The thunderstorm program includes LED lightning flashes, which increase in intensity as the storm develops. The last, and definitely coolest, part, is a 2 minute rain shower. An integrated tube system drips rain drops on the entire system, providing not just an amazing visual effect, but also serving as a partial auto top off.

The whole cycle lasts 8 minutes, with the last 2 minutes featuring rain. Here is a nice video showcasing the system.
