Aiptasia Control? Filefish?

I have been noticing some aiptasia sprouting up, not sure if there is a method you guys would recommend?

I have a hawkfish so I don't know if peppermint shrimp is safe?

I have many higher end zoanthids that I don' t want nipped?

I have been squirting aiptasia x in the ones I can reach, not sure of any other recommendations? Anyone have experience with filefish?

Just mentioning there are like 3-5 aiptasia I can see that I zap with Aiptasia X, just worried about keeping those under control if they end up in hard to reach spots and I can't reach them...

I have a File fish and Copper Band Butterfly fish in QT As of Wed Morning... I put a Rock in there from my Fuge With a Few aiptasia on them They both seem to be eating pods off the rocks only so far..From my Reading they both can be hit and miss on how well they work.

It appears my CBB has Flukes I am treating now . (it swims fine but once in a while will jerk its head like something is bother it.. It will be a bit but i will have the answer to this first hand in the near future..

The matted filefish is one of the better methods, IME. I have one and when I first got him in my old tank, it took almost a month for him to do much besides just eat what I put in the tank. Though, once he did, I would say all the aiptasia was gone within two weeks and there were quite a few. Mine didn't nip at my button polyps (Don't have actual zoas) but he did go after some lps after I moved everything to a new tank. I had to rehome him to my smaller cube tank where he now keeps my clowfish and mushrooms company. IME with Aiptasia-x, it sorta works at first, but it just seems to tick them off and they come back with a vengence.

How big is your tank? Putting a fish in there might not be an option. Being that peppermint shrimp are quite common & fairly cheap, I'd definitely throw a couple of these in there though just to see what happens.

I had a few and bought the file fish. Mainly because I thought it looks really cool. He had them gone in the first few days. Peppermint shrimp have been hit or miss for me in the past.

I have an aiptasia eater! Had him for about 2 years. Love him to pieces! He wiped out my aiptasia. Unfortunately he also made short work of my zoas!!!

:lmao:

i think you can only get the peppermint shrimps from florida. the other ones wont eat aptasia. also i was going to get the matter file fish too. asked people in my local reef and 5 out of 6 said it eventually tuned on there zoas and lps.
