Aiptasia Control

Hello Everyone,
First off this is NOT a sales pitch...I've been looking for a way to control the Aiptasia (curly cue anemone, glass anemone) for a while now, and I figured I would post my findings here as an additional resource for those trying to control Aiptasia.

I have read that Peppermint shrimp eat them, and they do, however my 2nd tank (the little 29 gal) has about 70 of them and they just aren't fast enough.

I have heard of the lemon juice trick, and that does work a little, but not as well as a product I found at my LFS.

The product is Aiptasia Control and is made by Blue Vet RX.

Reef safe, Works in minutes, and Veterinarian Approved is on the box and I have seen nothing that contradicts this info.

It DID NOT follow the instructions on the box to a tee, simply because I first tried it on a small one to see how it works.. They say to use 1 CC (Syringe comes in box) and squeeze the contents out OVER the top of the anemone and let it do its thing.
I only used about 1/4 of a CC and it did the trick fine.

I DID turn off all pumps/skimmers to make sure no water movement was going just to make sure it was a localized treatment about 3-5 min before I did the treatment.

I DID let the product sit on the anemone for about 30 min (it looked like a white blob at this point and I could not see the anemone anymore... it looked like it MELTED!)

I DID turn everything back on after about 30 min and now (24 hours later) no anemone can be seen, the treatment is heavier then water and seems to stay in a clump. I did swish it away from the rock and don't see any trace of the anemone.

Again, this is not a "I swear by" or "you must buy this" this is only my personal experiance with the product...and it worked well. It cost me only $9.00. I am following the instructions that say "use only once every 24 hours" which semi-worries me, I will post more if any ill effects are seen.

Personally I recommend using a combination of this product and peppermint shrimp to wipe out any colonies... The shrimp will kill any comming back and do on-going control. Besides Biological control in my opinion is best and lets face it you can NEVER have enough cleaners!

Thanks for this info. We brought in swimming anemones with some caulerpa. I only see a few at a time and lemon juice is working so far but we're thinking of getting a peppermint shrimp too. I'll keep this treatment in mind if they get out of control.
