Aiptasia Laser

wondering if anyone local has one of those lasers to zap these pests?

I have one on a rock I can't remove and would love to try this thing out.
Id be more than happy to rent it from you for a day.

Thanks

FYI, one of our local guys bought one of those lasers, fried those suckers good. Downside, seems when they fry, they somehow multiply. For every one he fried, 5 new ones popped up.

that's pretty disheartening. the idea of a method that didn't involve a syringe, lemon juice, or getting my hands in the tank seemed good.

Do you know of a better way to kill them?

I have one. Never had to use it on Aiptasia. Luckily don't have any. I have used it on zoa eating nudis and it works like a charm. This thing is powerful! It basically fries them in less than 10 secs. It's also a lot of fun! [emoji12]

I've used vinegar with a syringe and a needle. Hit it in the mouth and get 2-3ccs in there. In my experience it kills them right away.

have you had them multiply at all?
I know they spread once they are messed with by scattering pieces of themselves around the tank.

Not in my experience. I never had many though. 4-5 at the most and never saw them again after the vinegar. Just make sure they are completely open try to pierce the mouth with the needle and and hold it agains the rock then inject 2-3 CCs of it. Some people report they've had to used more than once but I always had succes the first time.

Best way to kill aiptasia

Best way to kill aiptasia

My two aquariums were covered w/ aiptasia. 75 and 180. spent 1500 on those little white critters that just disappeared. bottles and bottles of X. Backaches.

Bought two copperbands. one in each tank. In one week, 3 years ago, aiptasia gone. Copperbands thriving on Mysis now.

I started looking because I saw this on Aiptasia and wondered if laser would zap The Devil Bryopsis.:blown:

FWIW -'I've had good luck injecting them with a strong Kalk solution using an insulin syringe. The needle is very fine so they dont always retract in time, one shot and they're gone. Not very practical if you have very many but for a couple, this has worked well for me

That being said, I have one of the original aiptasia zappers from Paul B (his name here on RC). It worked great for me on large aiptasia. I bought a few peppermints a day or 2 after first getting and using the aiptasia zapper, so they kept any new ones from popping up after melting away the big ones I zapped. I actually do still have 2 aiptasas in the corner overflow of my tank. I thought I'd eventually have to zap them and/or put one of the peppermints in there to get rid of them. Amazingly, it's been more than four years since then and they're both still in the corner overflow area and they've never moved are reproduced. There's no aipasia in my display, refugium, or sump. 4 years ago I was cetain those two aiptasia in the overflow wouldn't take long to cause another outbreak, but for some reason, that never happened and it's been more than 3 years since I've even had any peppermints in that tank. I think those 2 aiptasia are either sterile or have been spayed or neutered.
