I thought it might be a zoanthid because I didn't see the long tentacles of aiptasia from around the edges. Button Polyp makes sense. The person who gave me the live rock did his best to kill everything in his tank. He did say there were red button mushrooms in the tank before he dumped triple the dose of calcium in his tank... Thanks for your input.

Gotcha. Learning. This is all new to me. Especially being the recipient of half dead corals that I am nursing back to health. Care to comment on what this is? I noticed it moved from the top of the tank to the lower during the night. I really thought this was dead as the guy took a rubber band and used it to hold it down...

kenya tree/colt coral maybe.. hard to tell... even more so with such blue light..
Is it a "softie/leather" coral?

Looks bleached for sure whatever it is..

I'd recommend browsing/reading here.. Great beginner information/just about all the basic corals there..

and good luck nursing back the dead.. Thats a HARD task for a newbie..
Consistent (stable) /good water quality will be key..
