airport extreme ?

I had previously set up my aquacontroller III w/ a dlink 615 years ago. My router kept dropping signals and chose to replace it with a new airport extreme. I attempted to follow this thread http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=675775&highlight=apple+airport

but the set-up is different than the newer airport extreme. If anyone is familiar with the airport extreme please share. My settings on the aquacontroller are: IP Address: 192.168.000.050; Netmask 255.255.255.000; Alt DNS Server 192.168.000.001

The airport extreme uses a different set of IP addresses (i.e. not 192.xxx.xxx.xx, instead everything starts with 10.xxx.xxx.xxx. For example, here are my settings with an Airport Extreme:

IP Address: 10.0.1.75
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.0.1.1
Primary DNS: 10.0.1.1

would I just replace current apple IP address into aquacontroller? I don't want to mess the settings in case I have to switch back.

The easiest way to do it is this:

Using the Apex display menus, enable DHCP in the Network setup menu. Reboot the controller by removing power. When it boots up, it will obtain all the required addresses from your AirPort. Go back into the Network setup menu and note the newly assigned IP. Disable DHCP in the Apex. It will retain the addressing assigned by the router. The IP address you noted is the one to use moving forward.

Optionally, you can change the last octet of the Apex's IP address (that's the number after the third decimal point) to something else, i.e. if the router assigned it 10.0.0.7, you can edit it it to be something like 10.0.0.10 or 10.0.0.50 if desired. Do not change anything else.

Point your browser to http://10.0.0.10 (or whatever the new address is), and you should get a username/password promt.

I don't see enabling DHCP on the older Aquacontroller III while I'm in Network setup. Any help would be appreciated

You probably have old firmware on the AC3.

I recommend upgrading that AC3 to v3.40 firmware. But you'll have to have network connectivity to do that. What you can do is follow my earlier post for the Apex. Then, after you've verified that the Apex is communicating properly, write down the exact settings in the Apex for IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS servers. Set the AC3 to be exactly the same for subnet mask, DNS, and gateway. Lastly, use the IP address from the Apex incremented or decremented by 1.


So if the Apex is:

Address: 10.0.1.50
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.0.1.1
DNS Server: 10.0.1.1
Alt DNS Server: 10.0.1.1

Make the AC3:

Address: 10.0.1.51
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.0.1.1
DNS Server: 10.0.1.1
Alt DNS Server: 10.0.1.1


Be sure to restart the Ac3 after changing the network settings by removing power for a few seconds
