Algae bloom after swap....

It's been 7 days since I did my swap.... I'm noticing green algae on my rocks and growing on the dead parts of my SPS. I swap from a 60g tank with 30g sump to a 100g tank to a 40g sump. I used at least 75% of my old water. All I use is RO/DI water with IO salt mixes. What should I do? What should I test for? My last test shows PH ok, Nitrate a little high but other than that it seems normal.

When I just did my tank move, I had the same problem. my nitrates went up a bit, and im watching the algae cycle thru itself. I think it's normall, just do your normal water changes, and watch the nitrates, maybe test for ammonia jsut to be on the safe side. My snails and crabs are making short work of it, I anticipate it gone over the course of about 3 weks total.

Did you move the live rocks and some of the live sand over to the new tank? The nitrification bacteria is normally found on surfaces, not in the water column (less than 5% in the water). You transferred 75% the water over, unfortunately, will not do anything for the cycling process.

change in light intensity and spectrum normally will trigger an algae bloom. When the tank reaches equilibrium again, the algae will disappear.
