i have an algae problem in my tank. there are alot of hairy algae all over my tank and im wondering what i can do to control it. my nitrate level is at 0 but i dont know how much phosphate is in there? is there something that i can buy to help control the phosphate? i have a 12 gallon nanocube? also the water in my tank is not as clear as before, should i was my filter? or how do i get it to be clear like before?

How long has your tank been setup? Are you using tap water or RO/DI water? Live rock/sand? As for phosphate control, get some GFO (PhosBan type) and place it where water will run through it. You can also run carbon to help clear the water a bit.

my tank is been up for like 2 months i have live rocks and sands and i have a divisa, duncan and blasto in it. and im using tap water.

Have you tested your tap water for TDS and other chemicals? Some tap water works okay, most will cause headaches.

RO = Reverse Osmosis
DI = DeIonized

RO/DI = both :)

You can usually pick up RO water at your local grocery store (that's what I'm doing for now). RO/DI is much better and you may be able to find it at your Local Fish Store (LFS). Most people recommend getting an RO/DI filtration system since the cost of buying water will eventually catch up. You'll see companies selling them listed on the banner ads here on Reef Central.

For small tanks, normally you can find RO/DI water at your LFS. For larger tanks, you need to purchase a unit to make it. Several sponsors sell these units.

I got my RO/DI unit on ebay for a heck of a lot cheaper than at a LFS or any of the saltwater online stores and it is working great so far. So if you are thinking about buying one I'd check there too
