Hello,
I seem to have a bit of a brown algae or diatom outbreak.. Or cyano? It ONLY seems to be on this rock though in my 65 gallon tank.
I just did a big water change and have been on top of my 25% weekly changes but I noticed this happened after I fed my sun coral at night a little too much and all the fish were asleep and I'm sure most of it turned to waste.
Now.. After someone helps me ID what it is - I've read that if its diatom - turn up the lights.. I heard if its algae.. Turn down the lights.. I've read the vodka method and obviously regular maintenance should fix it - Just wondering if anyone has any tips.
Note: my tank was well established (9 months) before I did the move here and have kept track of the parameters every 3-4 days and its very stable and hardly fluctuates. (I used 50% of the water on the move and 50% of the sand - its been setup for a month now at my house)
I use RO water and Redsea Coral pro Salt.
Salinity - 1.025
PH - 8.2-3
Nitrite - 0
Ammonia - 0
Nitrate - Closer to 5 looking than 10 (but who knows, the colors are so similar)
Everything else is otherwise healthy and happy.. My urchin and tiger snail devour most of the algae - I'm more worried about the brown stuff.
Thank you!
PS - Those two corals were bleached in the move from the previous owners and have slowly been gaining color since I bought my kessil (and slowly the algae growing on them is changing their color too...?)
