Algae growing on dead part of coral

I have a cat's paw that I bought with some damage. It now has some hair and slime algea growing on a three branches what do I do?

I frag dead pieces off, just below the exposed skeleton. If the coral is healthy, the tissue will regrow before algae or cyano can take hold. If you do nothing and allow the algae and cyano to grow, it can sting or smother near-by healthy tissue, causing even more damage.

I have no sand bed to take care of the problem. I've never been able to curve the growth of undesirables the tank,
