Algae ID

Anyone have any idea what type of algae this is? It looks a lot like hair algae, but has a different texture. More firm. It came on pretty quick. Long story short, a few months ago I beat hair algae by dosing NOPox and doing weekly water changes instead of bi weekly. Things were looking great, so I went back to bi weekly changes and only dosed the NOPox every other day.

Guess I should have stayed on course with what I was doing. It is growing pretty fast. I have to pull out a lot every couple days or so. Let me know what you guys think!

Thank you!

I've been doing some reading...
Mexican Turbo snails will eat it.

Also try to remove as much of the nutrients as possible, especially phosphate.

You need to be very through when doing manual as any floating filaments will settle and start new growth elsewhere.

From all my research thus far, when it comes to algae the best way to deal with any of it is to remove the nutrients that they thrive off of.

You're phosphate test will probably come back low as the algae is absorbing it quickly.

I used Rowa Phos and my levels dropped overnight from .3 to <0.03. I would give it a try with a few Mexican turbo snails, water changes and careful manual removal.

Thanks. I will give this a try. Think I will go with 2 turbos. If they actually eat it, I'll have to return them. Don't want them starving.

If you have any other algae they will eat it as well. If you don't have any snails in your tank you could keep them as part of your CUC.
