Algae in the QT tank

My 10 gal Quarintine Tank has recently shown an outbreak of algae. I am currently running a small sponge filter with carbon and have a small power head with some live rock in the tank. There are a few small snails in the tank & no livestock at this time. Any suggestions on how to eliminate this? P.S. the temp is approx 80 degrees, normal salinity.

Since it's a Q-tank, how about dump everything out, clean it thoroughly, then use the water from your display?

The display tank is not currently running, still finishing the plumbing. The QT tank has live sand and live rock which I was going to use to seed the main display.

Quarantine - a strict isolation imposed to prevent the spread of disease.

Kind of defeats the purpose of a QT tank, doesn't it? I would dump that sand and rock before putting fish or coral in the 10 gal.

What kind of lighting is on the QT tank? Do you have "green water" or just algae on the glass and rocks?

The QT just has the standard flourescent bulb for a small tank. The algae is just on the glass and part of the sand. I got the live sand from a couple of established tanks, (from friends), and started the small tank to hold it until the main display tank was finished. I would prefer to keep it to seed the main tank. Isn't there a way to clear it up?

Scrape all the glass, stir up the sand and do a 10 gallon water change. That's what I'd do.

With no corals in there, don't turn the light on either, that will help.

leave it alone its not going to hurt anything, theres nothing to hurt the water change will remove nutrients if you had to do something.
