I used to have little algae problems after the first months of my old tanks setup. Now with my new 120 its been a battle to say the least. Heres the list of all the stuff i've done/currently am doing to control it.
lots of snails and a tuxedo urchin
bi-weekly h20 changes
been using rodi water since the start tests 0 tds consistently
skimming wet (MRC-2 skimmer)
just added a fuge a few days ago
been running GFO in a Phosban reactor for a good 4 months
One fat happy blue tang resides in my tank
no light for 3-4 days (did this 2 times)
Mg raised to 1550 (done this countless times)
I think thats everything i've done so far. I'm at a loss as to how this stuff continually comes back. I have both briopsis and diatoms. Everytime I throw something new into the mix it works well at slowing it but the two algaes are still beating me. I need some suggestions about what could be causing this or what I can do to try and solve it. I know there has got to be little to no phosphates as I feed very little and I change about 100g of GFO bi-weekly or weekly. I skim as wet as possible to pull out as much DOCs as possible to cut back on nitrates. My feed is usually once daily prime reef or mysis shrimp only as much as is eaten in about 30 seconds. I also will on occasion feed formula 1 pellets in addition to the frozen but that is not very often. I'm just so lost as to how this could be continuing to grow. My only theory is maybe phosphates are bound up in the rock and leaching out?
Thanks for the help,
Kyle
