Algae Question

I have a 29gallon biocube that I just started. Today would be day 15 with my reef tank. When I started I just had 2lbs of real reef rock. Then on day 7 I added 6 more lbs for a total of 8lbs. Today my Ammonia is at .25ppm, Nitrite and Nitrate are at 0ppm. Salinity is good and pH is good. I have some green algae on my rock.

Is it good that I keep the green algae on the rock so that it can develop my Nitrite and Nitrate? I can't find a clear answer online.

you'll get nitrite first then nitrate when the nitrifying bacteria break down the ammonia. those bacteria will occur naturally in the presence of their food source which is ammonia. you just need to be patient and give them time to have enough population to process the ammonia. algae will surely come and go over time. you can remove the green algae from your rock manually if you want. good luck.

welcome to RC :)

I agree with the above and personally I would add some more rock. I would like to have at least 20lbs in the tank. Good luck just my 2 cents.
