Algae Turf Scrubber Input

I've been reading a lot about algae turf scrubbers and think I want to implement one into my tank. I know there are thousands of threads, forums, etc dedicated to ATS but I was wondering if anyone here has one?

I've been going back and forth on whether I should try a waterfall (water driven) or upflow (air driven) style scrubber. Any input?

I'm working with a 20 gallon high sump so I don't have a ton of room.

Also, lighting....? LED's (red, 660nm) or CFL's? I know the pros and cons but was hoping someone here had some experience with it. CFL's are of course cheaper, but add a lot of heat. Any ideas on a cheap LED build or fixture?

Thanks!!

I did one for a while (waterfall style), worked great, used a CFL for light, but a PITA to clean weekly. Got a very healthy handful every week. I went back to chaeto, GFO & vodka.

If I had a larger system with lots of fish(poop), I'd probably consider going back to it with some sort of closed system (vs waterfall) designed into my sump/pipes.

From what I've read about using leds for an ATS, the lower K and red mix seems to work.
