Algae vs pods What to do?

My chaeteo and hair algae are overrunning my fuge and I would like to remove half or so. Problem is there are pods litterally covering just about every inch of this stuff. Should I not mess with it or take some out with the pods in it. I figure the pods will probably reproduce anyways even if I remove it but I hate to ever remove pods from a tank. What should I do?

You can also shake out the chaeto in your main tank before throwing it out. This will get a lot of the pods out and provide food for your tank.

I usually pull out a clump of chaeto from my fuge and leave it in my display for a day and let my mandarin goby pick through it.

I like the idea of shaking it out in the main tank but there is a bunch of hair algae growing in and around my chaeto. Could make a big mess in the main tank.

I wouldn't shake it, you probably got detritus trapped in there. You wouldn't want to add it back to the tank. Think of the pods and cheato as nutrient export and toss it.
