Algea eating snail that does not muliply?

I love clean up crews, but once i had freshwater and the snails mulipliyed so quick the only real way to get rid of them was to take down the whole tank (not fun)

With that said currenlty i have most of the reef safe snails in my 29 gal reef biocube. I want to add a few more to eat algea and sift the sand, but i do not want to worry about breeding issues.

Any suggestions?

Not sure what kind of snails you currently have, but nassarius snails are excellent for sifting sand. They burrow & then come out when you feed. Kind of fun to watch. It's not common for snails to breed in home tanks for saltwater.

I don't think you need any more CuC in your tank.

50 CuC animals is overkill in a BC29.

p.s. Your SS Star is starving to death. Respected names in the industry have quoted a tank size of 200-500 gallons for sand sifting stars to thrive.

I agree, if you're still having algae problems with that CUC it might be time to consider improving your nutrient reduction/export means.

ajstitan14, I will soon be getting rid of my sand sifting star fish as my LFS never told me they eat the good stuff in my sand, nor did they tell me that i should have him in a 200-500 tank. SHessh you would think they would tell you this stuff.

swigen, my tank is ok with algae i do 20% weekly water changes, and i am making my second chamber into fuge this weekend.

I understand. Some people have nothing but poor choices in their market for fish stores. GF and I go out to a place called The Fish Doctors in Canton, MI. There are at least 5 stores that are closer but we like those guys the best by far.

A lot of LFS go for the fast cash without taking the long view. Even though it bites them in the end when you lose confidence in them because you learn what they told you was wrong or whatever. A good LFS will look to have a long term relationship with you and help you develop in skill and knowledge.

At the sih Doctors we went in there for months without buying much just to talk and learn. They gave us the time to grow and get comfortable and as things progressed we got comfortable and started spending more etc...

in my city we have 3 stores one sucks for everything, the other one has a small selection but really high prices, and the last one i go to has the largest selection and good prices but the sales people are always in a rush and i have learned it is better to know what you want before you go and purchase.
