ALgea question

Hi RC. I have had my tank up and running for about two months now with no algae issues. I have made sure I started with dry rock and dry sand. But today I received about 200 dollars worth of monti corals and the frag plugs are covered in algae. Should I be putting these in my tank?

Algae will find its way in no matter what. But what kind of algae do you have on the plugs? If it is a particularly annoying kind I would squirt the algae with a syringe full of hydrogen peroxide.

If it's just film algae, no worries, completely safe. Hair algae, annoying but you'll get it in your tank eventually anyway. Byropsis, kill it with fire.

Agree with the other comments. Algae will come in eventually. You probably already have it. The difference is whether your tank will feed it or starve it. As TimeConsumer said, though, if it looks like feathers or a fern that's bryopsis and you should not introduce it. Nothing eats it and nothing kills it other than ODing your tank on Mg.
