hey everone sorry i did not make it to the meeting.........what is the right alkalinity level ? my alk was at 3.6-3.2 ..i was told dy someone it was to high ..so i went out a got some buffer a week ago or so and now my alk level is at a 0-0.7 ...what shoud i do?

What "buffer" are you using? Most buffers would raise alk/ph. Based on what you said above you added buffer and your alk dropped.

I would suspect the test kit.

Do you know what the PH of the tank is? Could you try testing some freshly mixed water to see what alk reading you get from the test?

ok will do that now...my ph is at 8.4 freshly mix water alk is 1.7

What brand salt is it?
What brand is the test kit?
what is the new water and tank salinity?
What are you using to measure salinity?

I would not add any more buffer for the time being. A tank PH of 8.4 and alk reading as low as you are getting doesn't add up.

Yeah i always thought alk was suppose to be in the 7-11 range?

7-11 is the dkh measures the hardness of the water and meg/L is the actual alkalinity which should be around 2.9
