ABOUT how much of the 2 part additive (Randy's recipe #1) a day should I have to add to my system of 80-85 gallons with all softies except for a derasa clam the size of a soft ball and a small hydronophora (I think thats what its called...hydro something) frag?

I have found that if I dont dose about a cup of both parts a day, that the alkalinity goes down to 7 DKH, then 6. The ca goes down with the alkalinity. When I add both parts, there is no percipitation, but it seems as if a cup of both parts a day is too much? The magnesium levels are at 1400 ppm. The PH gets as low as 7.8 at night and as high as 8.0 at day. I have ruled out testing errors or bad tests for all parameters.

Is there much coralline growth?

I agree it seems on the high side, but I don't see any reason to think that less would be better, nor what you could do to use less. You sure you made it up right? Sure the test kits are accurate?

yup

not much coralline growth...very little on the rocks, none at all on the glass.

With a cup per day my alk stays around 8 dkh

before this method I wasnt monitoring ca/alk because I didnt know anything about it. Thanks for your articles Randy :)

Although I have tried pickling lime as well to see if it would maintain the levels better, but the alk would still be low after using the lime at a rate of 2 tsps per gallon.
