Alkalinity is decreasing

Hello,

The aquarium is set to 70 days. No coral yet. but alkalinity is decreasing . why could it be?

I use the Red Sea coral. I have 4 fish and a cleaning team.

There is no problem with the test kits. new water gives normal values

What are your readings calcium, alkalinity and magnesium? How often are you testing and what amount is alk decreasing daily?

I did not do much testing. Becaouse i dont have coral.

11.08 and 18.08 chance whater %20. But all testing befor the whater chance.

Alkalinity
05.08 - 6.4
11.08 - 6.5
18.08 - 5.3

Calcium
05.08 - 385
18.08 - 360

Magnesium
05.08 - 1260
11.08 - 1115
18.08 - 1185

If you don't keep corals, doesn't matter, but for interest.....

Once magnisum falls below 1200, the other two ions (CA and Alk) find each other faster and come together. The lower the Mag, the faster. Mag is the "magic" which prevents Ca and Alk from just binding together quickly and precipitating out of the water.

You will find it quite difficult to maintain CA and Alk without the correct concentration of Mag.

Keep Magnisum about 1350, Ca420, Alk, 8-9 DKH

Coralline algae consumes quite a bit as well so if you start to see more of that pop up and you want it to expand, you'll need to keep calc alk and mag at the numbers stated.

I want a coral. but when coral is not there I do not understand that the values are falling. I have no additives. Only 10% change of water every week. Maybe it's coralline algae. the aquarium is only 70 days old. Would it be appropriate to continue with water change? I do not use contributions

Maybe it's coralline algae? Yes it could be coraline or something else growing
The aquarium is only 70 days old. Would it be appropriate to continue with water change? Yes. You might think about using a salt that is higher in Alk, Mag and Cal. Something like Red Sea Pro or Reef Crystals.

I do not use contributions (Additives)

In the future you should make a plan for adding contributions.

I continue with 10% water change every week with red sea coral pro. I have a calcium reaktorum for the future. I did not set it yet.

Thank you all

Because other life in the tank can use those elements also..
Its not just corals..

Snails use it to build there shells and much more...

Corals are NOT the only consumers of those elements..

I had a similar issue having a tank with no coral, and it likely was from new tank, algae and snail growth. I have had an explosion of tiny snails over the last two weeks as well.

Good information. I control my aquarium. Thank you.
