Alkalinity Problem

I have a 120 gallon tank , with minimal fish and light corals, 100 pounds of live rock. I recently upgraded my alkalinity test kit, what I found out is my tap water that I use for water changes has a very high Alkalinity of 20dKH, my tanks alk is reading 17.3dKH. I did also test some bottled water to make sure the test kit was working properly and that measured 8.4. So I think it is correct. My question is there anything I can do? or do I need to switch my tank over and start using distilled water for all my water changes. It seems like everyone is trying to raising their alk, but this seems a little over board.

Any suggestions?

In addition to high alkalinity, there is a very good chance you are adding a lot of other pollutants to the tank using tap water. You are going to save yourself a lot of money and time in the long run if you purchase a good RO/DI water filter and make your own fresh water, but either way quit using your tap water.
