OK heres a question for you lps experts. I just added a nice sized alvaproa colony to my tank about 2-weeks ago. At the lfs it was in a 90 tank lets saty with a quad pc stripe. There it was fully opened and extened this thing looked huge. Not in my tnak I have a 125 w/ the same quad pc setup 2 10k's and 2 pure atinic. My levels are all perfect and this thing hasn't opened. My question is why is it not opening and what should I check for and hoe do I know this thing isn't dead already. IE sps bleaching ='s death. Thanks for your help

As long as is not receding youa re ok. Just give it time to acclimate, like Albert said they usually take a while.

They prefer gentle flow.

Do you have higher flow than what it was in at the LFS ?

I agree, placed in my main tank where there is decent flow, didn't open fully for a week. Took it out placed in my nano, very low flow, opened right up....... Only problem is i wanted it in my main tank :)

Mine started not to open after about a month when I had it directly under the lights (130W PC), so I moved it semi into a cave. The base is in a partially shaded area but the polyps extend into the light. And the flow is mild there too. Since then it's been doing great. I've had it there for about a year. My friend has his the same, base in a semi-shaded area and lower flow area. I think the flow may be a big factor. HTH

Yes, mine took a few days to open up. After about 2 weeks, it opened up fully. I have mine located about mid level of the tank. It receives mild gentle flow, and it's partially shaded by my montipora cap. I've noticed when I increased the flow on it, it tend to not extend its polyps as much. I'd say, gentle flow and medium light.

Yes with most Alveopora start with gentle flow and light. I would feed oyster eggs directly to it. They need a good amount of plankton sized food. If you don't have an older system with copious plankton direct feeding is a must. Phytoplankton is good system additive. The Alveopora won't eat it directly but zooplankton in the tank will eat it then the Alveopora will eat the zooplankton and eggs, larvae
