I just have to take a moment and laugh at my current situation.

A few months back I decided to change up my tank. I removed all my fish and added in a completely new set of livestock.

This involved removing my 6-line wrasse that was one of the first fish I added and a fish I had in my tank for about 4 years. I wanted to re-vitalize my pod population so the wrasse had to go.

Up until that point I had always considered myself lucky. I read these threads about all the various pests you could get and never had any. I dip my corals like everyone else and figured I was doing my due diligence.

Well fast forward to today. Last week I removed all my montipora from my tank due to an awful montipora eating nudibranch infestation. Today I found a zoa eating nudi on a mini colony I had fraged.

So now I am sitting here half laughing to myself. I got rid of the wrasse because i wanted more biodiversity in my tank. Now I have plenty - the kind that eats your corals.

PS: The montipora loss was not a huge loss -- only had a few frags and one large-ish spongodes. It ended up being a good thing, I re-did the aquascape in my tank because I no longer have the montipora growing on things. New aquascape always makes an old take interesting again.

I know the feeling, I have had things like that happen, I guess we all do. It's hard to keep all the pests out. I just found one in one of my tanks that I didn't know about.

The hobby that gives, and gives, and gives.

The hobby that gives, and gives, and gives.

I have actually gotten what I wanted in this hobby a few times... always lead to disastrous outcomes :lmao:

I am always just thankful that every time some kind of new fun problem comes up it is in a nano tank and not some large 200g system full of very expensive corals.

Also to clarify -- all those pests existed in my tank for who knows how long. The removal of the wrasse lead to them taking over since it had been diligently eating everything for years lol..

I think any future tank will always have a wrasse for that reason. Definitely more aware of what to look for now with pests, but also aware of how efficient wrasses are at fighting pests =P

Now I know why I have 4 Wrasses. I also appreciate the utilitarian value of my Kole Tang ( I am adding a PBT and a Purple to help him out), Cherub Angel and my Matted Filefish (the cutest ugly fish ever). My Spotbreast Angel even helps out once in awhile with some algae nibbling.

i love my 6-line. well its a love hate. i have to add pods once in a while just so my madarin doesnt go hungry...he isnt starving either so thats good.
Just knowing that my 6-line is my pest control im happy i guess.
