Am I interpreting Prazipro dosing instructions correctly?

Hi

I am planning to dose Prazipro to tackle flukes.

1. Is it necessary to do a water change BEFORE dosing Prazipro?

2. The instruction states one (1) teaspoon per 20 gallons of water. Do I just dose once and leave it for 5 to 7 days? Wont the concentration of Prazipro reduce due to water evaporation over the 7 days period?

3. Is it possible to keep the initial dose of Prazipro without any water change for 2 to 3 weeks? Will it harm the fishes? FYI, it is a FOWLR tank

4. If a second dose is necessary and I do a 20% water change after the first dosage, how much do of Prazipro should I dose for the 2nd dose assuming I did not run copper prior to the second dose?

Thanks

1. That's up to you. I like to... it doesn't hurt.

2. prazi doesn't evaporate, just like salt doesn't evaporate... only fresh water will evaporate. That said, it is best when using meds to keep the water level the same, so it keeps the dose the same.

3. I don't know how slowly or quickly the medication is broken down. I would follow the instructions.

4. I would remove the med completely with carbon and a water change, prior to your second round of dosing.

Prazi remains in solution for about 72 hours. Most folks (myself included) do two doses 5-7 days apart with a water change in between doses. This way you kill any eggs that might have hatched after the 72 hour mark.

What do you mean by "in solution"?

Meaning that it retains its efficacy against flukes for that time period. After that, it will no longer eliminate helminths. This is why the instructions state to not treat more than once every 3-5 days.

Thank you for the clarification. I tried to look for the half life of the med online in seawater, but couldn't find any references. Based on your info, do you mean "This is why the instructions state to not treat more than once every 3-5 days without water changes or carbon in between"?

Yes, exactly. You don't want to remove the medication while it is still effective. I did read somewhere that prazi acts pretty quickly on flukes (within hours), but I can't find the reference. Anyway, following the manufacturer's dosing recommendations has worked well IME.
