Am I supposed to feed a Colt?

Anyone know if it can live off it's algae? Mine is really dark brown, not your typical white base w/ brown polyps...the whole thing is brown. Yes it is def. a Colt.

Hormi- thats what I thought

peanut- DT's? Is that like marine snow? You also have a lot more light than I do, and how can you tell the Colt is eating? Do the polyps actually open and close like Xenia?

DTs is a live cultured Phytoplankton you can buy by the bottle. I personally think its overused in the hobby, as its actually too small for most corals to feed on (much smaller than Marine Snow). Excellent stuff for some bivalves, sponges, tunicates, sea apples, and other specialized filter feeders, but not of any use for soft corals, with the Possible exception of some nonphotosynthetic species.

The only way to tell if a softie is eating generally is to break out the magnifying glass and see if you can see if there is any food moving into the polyp. Some species you can actually see the particle right through the sides of the polyp... cool looking

Hormi- I agree with you...cyclopeez is as small as I like to get.

Grey Hawk- I do the Iodine, just wanted to know about supplemental feeds.

Thank you, everyone.

No need to feed those- they grow very quickly under normal tank conditions without any extra supplements.

mine won't fully inflate, ever since I got the tank 3 months ago. they do not look like they are dying, just not all that happy. could it be too much flow? or do I need to feed them?
