Amount of sand ?

After much thought, I have decided to go from a deep sandbed in my 75 to a shallow sand bed in my new 180. How much pounds of sand would do the job?
Also, my live rook looks good and free of bad algae and has been stable for 3 years. Should I just stick to the new sand and add live rock and not use any of the old sand (just a couple cups to seed?)
Thanks for the input.

From what I have read.. yeah just add a cup of old sand.. I think that the sand bed is more personal preference.. there is a calculator on the home page here.. left hand side.

Also, where is the best place to buy sand online these days? A couple sites are way cheaper even with shipping my nearest LFS. They have two on the shelf ;-(

I was thinkg at least 200 lbs for 2 inch depth according to calculator. I will have to vist several stores to get same type of sand is my only concern. It would be much easier.

I just had two 5gal buckets of salt delivered to my house and the freight was only $13.00 and I had another box of goodies with it too. Check out http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Shop.cfm?c=3578&

I'm not sure how their sand selection is but they are very reasonable on freight.

In my tank about a pound per gallon put it a 3 inches in the display.

My truck get about 15 mpg so I can literally have it delivered cheaper then I can go to the fish store. The funny part is the Salt is about half price too. Gotta luv that.

For the cost of sand now days I should go in my back yard and start to bag it and sale it. I have mounds of oolitic sand just in my back yard well enough to give everyone on this fourm a couple of tanks full and not even put a dent in it.

playa, did you go with the oolitic sand?

Just an Aragonite white sand they had a the lfs for me. It wasn't the sugar fine stuff but more of a medium grain. It's been a long time ago.
