amphipods

Placed a new coral last night. Noticed something moving on my sandbed in the moonlights. Turned on the white lights to see small whiteish clear shrimp like bugs. I think they are amphipods. (again phone refuses to load pics so) are amphipods dangerous to a reef system?

Hmmmm. From what you describe then I'm leaning towards YES - you have a problem with amphipods.
They are more of a pain on the eyes then anything else, but You definitely DON'T want them on your corals!
If so, then a goby or two might be in order! They love to munch on them!

Amphipods are not dangerous and are unavoidable. Everyone has them in their reef tanks. There's also a million other things it could be.

Please research before you post.

I Agree and if they are on the Corals themselves. Like on the Polyps you Really Need to post a pic. Unless the coral is stressed and dying or has algae on it they usually do not get on corals that i have seen. Usually move about the rock and sand bed picking up waste and making more pods.

Cant post a pic. And did my research. I have id'ed them, but nothing out there says one way or another as to whether they are harmful.

They're not harmful unless you consider the fact that they eat copepods in your tank as bad. They are a great food source for fish and they can also be eaten by corals if they get caught in their tentacles.

follow up question to this. do wrasses eat amphipods too or only copepods? which is better to have in a tank?
