i KNOW FOR SURE i'm going SSB on my 180g, my question is this. one of my friends says that SSb's do provide some food for coral. i wasn't sure if this was true.also, can i keep a pistol shripm and goby in SSB? i will have rock rubble for him to use as well. i might even provide a dep area just for him. would that work?

I'm starting a 180G myself w/ a SSB. With a 180G tank, 1-2" is a lot of sand!!

As far as food for the corals, I'm not sure what you mean? I don't think sandbed produce any food. Unless he's referring to it being a place for worms and critters to reproduce and possibly release their eggs and such... Otherwise, they are usually a place for nitrying bacterias and in some cases a nutrient sink/wormhole :).

I think you'll be okay with a pistol scrimp't and goby w/ a 1-2" SB since they are pretty small :).

thanks. i won't be filling the entire bottom cause i don't want it under my rock(detritus net) so it will cover half the tank
