Well yesterday i went and bought some green star polyps (i'm going to try and get it to grow on my back wall but any how thats for a different forum) but this morning as i walked by my tank i saw an asterina star walking right over the polyps. now i'm not quite sure if it was munching on them but i wasn't going to give it a chance i got him out and flushed him. i guess i just had to vent for a second considering i've always defended them saying they were reef safe with caution around sps.

i know i have more in my tank and as i see them thay will be coming out. sorry but one bad apple......

I usually defend them too since I have had over 100-150 in my old 10G with 3 different species total without any problems. They seemed to love eating the hard green algae that develops on most reef tanks and would snack a bit on coralline algae. But they never really took a dent out of the coralline algae.

I am almost certain the star was just cleaning and investigating the new rock (my cleanup crew always investigates a new coral/rock). Thats what mine would do. But I can understand your concern.

I used to have a massive population in my 80g. Over a course of a couple of weeks, all my clams (about 10 of them), were all retracted. They were not dead, just retracted. I decided to do a FW dip on one, and out came about 4 of these stars. They weren't killing them, but sure as heck annoying them. I did a FW dip on all, and out came atleast 3-6 in each clam. So, it took me a good month to eradicate them, but I will not be housing them anymore

i found a few in my tank, lost of RC members told me they were ok to have but i did not want to take any chances on it snacking on my expensive corals so i took them out, its nothing the normal CUC cant take care of.

I've always defended them too, but I'm starting to suspect they're the reason I just can't keep zoanthids in my 20 gallon. I've got no eyewitness evidence or anything else that would hold up in court, but they've got opportunity, more motive than anything else in my tank, and no alibi.
