And speaking of dead rock....

And speaking of live and dead rock, because I'm upgrading to a bigger tank I'll need more rock. TwoPartSolutions (www.twopartsolution.com) had just the answer for me. I've already got live rock with the bacterial populations and coralline algae growing. They are selling dry dead rock for about $2.50 per pound, and it looks great. I'll use this as base rock in addition to the live rock I already have. And shipping was much cheaper, because the rock is lighter (no water) and doesn't have to be shipped overnight. It came clean, no dead matter fouling it up. Here's what they advertise and deliver:

"25 pounds of Eco RoX (Dry Fiji Base Rock) Affordable and Environmentally Friendly Rock for your Reef Aquarium at an Incredible Price of only $2.56 a Pound.

Typical live rock is robbed out of the ocean , destroying critical habitat for corals , fish and other aquatic life. Our Eco Rox are collected on the beach or saved from construction companies that were going to crush it up and use it as lime. Eco Rox are not only the most affordable solution but they are the most environmentally responsible decision.

Eco Rox are not filled with heavy water so 25 pounds is often the equivalent of 50 pounds of live rock . This puts it at the equivalent value of $1.28 a pound and you don’t have to pay for expedited shipping. Because the rock is dry there are also no worries about strange algae or other pests. Don't be the sucker who pays 10 times as much for the same volume of rock just because it has some bacteria or coralline algae on it . Bacteria is free and will come on its own . Coralline algae can be seeded from one piece of live rock ."

And no, I'm not receiving kickbacks from these guys. I just think they're doing a great job at helping out the reef hobby.

I hear that some of the local shops have base rock also. You may want to check with some of them before ordering online and having to pay shipping.

i'm considering eco rox too. do they really not require curing or "cooking"?
marco rocks needs "curing" , as stated on the website.

Any info on how clean the eco rox product is will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

you should check out hirocks.com I got 60lbs for $60 shipped awhile back. I even think a guy in our club (MTRC) ordered a 2000lbs pallet once.
