Anemone floating away.

Gives Bad Advice.
How do i try and keep it in the place i want? It's a BTA. It's about 10 inches from the top of the water and has a decent flow across it. I did a 20 gal water change today and everything was fine until the water change. Reading are as followed:

ammonia - 0
NO2 - 0.1 PPM
NO3 - 10 PPM
pH - 8.4
Temp - 78 degrees

Any thoughts? it completely shrivelled and is sitting at the bottom of the tank. I did add "RALLY" after the water change because i noticed some bacterial infections on my fish but it says it's Safe for fish, coral and inverts. I added, as it states on the bottle, one ounce per 10 gallons. I only added about 6-7oz. So i'm not really sure of what to do now.

you'll never get an anemone to go where YOU want it. Make your prefered place the most inviting part of your tank but since the anemone is a motile creature it will go where IT wants.

Water stability is key to anemoen happiness. Big water changes are the antithesis or stability and frequently upsey anemones.

How long has the tank been up and running? Did you QT the fish first? I'm not sure what "Rally" is, but I'm not sure I'd trust it with inverts and corals.

I used "RALLY" in my old 75 gal and my BTA was almost death I had to spend almost 1 month to recover it. Keep changing water and stop adding "RALLY" it is not good for the BTA although it says so.

Good luck.

When i added the RALLY is actually when he let loose of his rock in high flow and just floated around. I'm gonna stop adding it and try to use garlic now as suggested by another member.

For future referenve I'd be VERY wary of using ANY medication with inverts. I think it's irresponsible of manufacturers to issue a blanket statement that it's ' safe with inverts' Which inverts ? Has the product been tested against every invert which is available to hobbyists ? I very much doubt it. Anyway, rant over, I hope that your anemone recovers.

Yea well unfortunately it decided to continue to move and i'm not sure how but it made it's way up and into a MaxiJet 1200. That really ticks me off. All its arms were shredded this morning when I woke up. I'm going to be replacing it with a carpet anem since Percs are suppose to host those. I just can't believe how many stupid things have happened with my 90.

I sounds like your tank has a way to go before risking killing another anemone, but that's just my thoughts.

I hope that you have done a massive water change. I 'm with RokleM, wait a while before adding another anemone. especially if you have to medicate, although I highly suggest that you save any medication for a QT tank
