Slowly- with your hand in a rubber glove, very slowly but surely edge the tip of your thumb between the foot and the glass. It's critical not to tear it. It will let go eventually, inch by inch, or at times it will contract and let go all at once.

It's also best to let them wander where they want, so long as they aren't threatened by powerhead intakes. They'll find a place they like eventually and settle if tank conditions are good.
