i have three btas in my 100 gallon reef tank. i am in the process of populating this tank with softies and would like to know if anemones sting ricordea, discosoma, or other mushrooms. thanks!

i think btas are pretty mild; mine's growing right next to some pom pom xenia and also touching some zoanthids, so far the xenia and zoanthids seems to be unaffected.

i asked this question because typically zoanthids do not sting other zoanthids and mushrooms do not sting other mushrooms. i've read that mushrooms are considered anemones as well, so to analogize this, i thought maybe btas will not sting mushroom corals.

thanks for the responses so far. can someone comment on btas and whether or not mushrooms such as discosoma or ricordeas are stung?

thanks!

I have some xenia growing right next to one of my bta's and the bta easily kills any that grows close to it. I have some orange ricordea right in between that bta and my other bta. They aren't physically touching the ric's so there is no damage yet, but I could always move the rics if need be.

I have some purple/blue striped discosoma in my other tank that will sting some other blue mushrooms but they won't sting my metallic red mushrooms. My tomatoes host both the purple/blue striped and the metallic red. HTH.
