anemone tank?

im looking into building a 50 gallon anemone tank with just clowns. what im thinking is muiltiple anemones (like a thick seaweed bed) swaying in the current and a bunch of different clownfish moving in and out of the tenticles...

is this doable?

One pair of clownfish will do fine in that size tank. If your anemones are clones, they will also do fine, as long as the environment that you keep them in is up to par. Once you start adding more then one pair of clownfish and different species of anemones, your chances of success decline.

yeah my bubble tip is whoring itself out. its split 3 times in the last 2 months and im not sure what to do with all these 2" anemones!

Anemones split when they are stressed. Three times in two months is a bit too much. How long has the tank been set up? What are the water parameters, lighting, equipment, etc.?

i recently moved him to a new tank, i believe i may have torn his boot a bit. thats why i believe he split

just stick with btas, i dont think you should try it with mixed anemones. also, a pair of clowns is probably the most you can have for a tank that size.

The only times I have heard of long term success with keeping more then a pair of clownfish is with BOTH A: more anemones then clownfish, and B: starting with a very young group that was from the same hatch. It is usually easier/safer to just do one pair, it will still be really awesome with all those BTAs. Maybe you could add a second color of BTAs to mix things up...

Even something as simple as moving to a new tank is enough to cause stress and make an anemone split. The stress doesn't have to be huge.

I have had a pair of black and white occ and a pair of orange occ that got along great together for about 2 yrs up until about a week ago. I think the B&W's laid eggs and now have been so aggressive and territorial that i had to pull the oranges and quarentine them. They were soo torn up I had no other choice.
