anemones

Sebae anemone's are some of the hardest to keep IMO... Anything against getting a BTA? Much easier to keep in a tank...

And anemone's move around a lot until they find a place they like and they don't care what corals get in the way and they will kill corals when they touch them...

Also how old is the tank? IMO a tank needs to be mature (6+ months) in order to house an anemone...

Some disagree with anemones in reef tanks. I, on the other hand, house a beautiful carpet anemone in my reef tank. It has grown from smaller than a salad plate to about 22-inches in diameter. I am careful to keep my corals away from it. I have had several different anemones and like the carpet the best. In my experience they tend to move around less. Once settled they are there. When I got my new tank about a year ago, I dug a hole in the sand and put my carpet anemone's foot in it and he has been there every since.

i don't know anything about sebae anenomes but you could keep most anenomes in a reef tank, carpets and some other anenomes will try to eat anything that touches them so beware! it would be a good idea to cover your overflow if you have one just in case it decides to let go of a rock or migrates into one.

Yes, that they will do....gotta be quick. About two months ago mine ate my yellow tang. I was mad, but I love "Sticky" (Carpet anemone) more :) I replaced my yellow tang with a Sailfin and I'll be darned the first couple times the Sailfin swam around the anemone I thought he wass going to be a goner, but the Sailfin must have had a flashback from the sea to stay clear of those things, so it has and all is well! I wish it would eat some of my damsels. I hate those things. That is ok, I got a lion fish to take care of them some day :)

If you want a nice smaller nem, the rock/flower nems E. crucifer, come in all sorts of color morphs and are pretty hardy, cheap too. I have several and love em.

the sebaes are hardy provided you get a healthy specimen. pass on any bleached ones and you should be fine. they also tend to move less than some of the other anems. I had a large one in my reef for a little over a year before I sold it when I moved

I have a Sabae in my reef. Dosen't eat anything but what I give it. My 2 clowns are hosting it too. I have Zoa's that have grown right up to it and they don't seem to mind.

Seems to be industructible too. Been sucked up in the filter screen twice, then a poorly placed powerhead chopped off alittle bit. When I first got it was dyed and about the size of a tennis ball. Now its like the size of a soccer ball.

once it found a home on a rock it hasen't moved.

Sebae anemones are not bad when it comes to catching and eating fish, they are often sold either dyed or bleached and they do not survive. They tend to find a spot they like and stay put.

my issue with "sebae" anemones is that I have seen like 4 or 5 different species sold as sebae. I think some places label any nem they can't identify as sebae. Heteractis crispa is the one most people mean but I have seen H. Crispa, H. Malu, M. doreensis, and H. Aurora labeled sebae. just look at some pics to make sure what you have is what you think you have ;)
