Angle Aluminum Mounting Rails?

Hi all,

I'm trying to brainstorm a simple but sleek method to mount some LEDs above my 90 gal tank. I am considering putting 4 of the aurora pucks with heatsinks on the rail.

I was thinking of the possibility of welding aluminum angles together in a way to create a rail that I could mount on top of my tank.

Are there any obvious severe flaws in doing this? What kind of protective coating would I need to put on the metal?

It has been done, rivets would be easier than welding.

Great point about the rivets! I'll certainly want to do that. What about coatings? I saw in another thread about a custom enclosure being coated with a powder coat, is that something I'll want to do here?
