Annoying engineer goby...

I added a porcelain crab to my tank and the engineer goby went for his claw, after the crab ran away I didn't see the goby bother him again.
I added a blue star leopard wrasse and the engineer tried to nip at it right away, after the wrasse buried itself the goby keeps getting mouthfuls of sand and throwing them aside, it is trying sooo hard to dig him up. I'm afraid this is going to extra stress my wrasse and ruin my chances with it. How can I catch the goby without having to buy a trap...

Many people decide that Engineer Gobies are not desirable. Not sure how to catch them even with a trap.

Hook line and sinker. I had one in my tank and caused a disaster everyday. I used a very small hook (unbarbed as you dont want to hurt the little guy) and fished him out. He was over a foot long when I pulled him out and he was totally unharmed. I was quite surprised how well it worked.

I actually had 2 breed in a tank before, woke up one morning to a tank filled with tons of little baby engineers, they got eaten quickly though.

Great idea.

they get to be over a foot long, and I've been told can move even big rocks around... get it out asap, and do your research before buying a new fish...

Sounds like the way to go, thank you.

I know how big they could get. He won't be moving any rocks since they are glued. I research before I put anything in my tank, no where did it say he would harass my fish, so keep the uncalled for comments to yourself.

Engineer gobies are (dare I say at risk of trading in my Man card?), cute when they are young, but can be a terror to corals (burry them in sand), sand, rocks, and as you've witnessed fish when they get mature.

I'm an engineer for the USAF information systems by trade, so the engineer goby was my first fish (I liked the name. Stupid me...). I had one in my 120g, and he definitely got traded in when I upgraded to my 225g.

This isn't my video, but check it out... As picorref mentioned, hook (non-barbed), line, and sinker. They like meaty foods, so use some turduken as bait. Jk. :lolspin: A small piece of shrimp or squid should do...

Best of luck, and keep us posted...

I don't think I have ever hated one of my fish, but the engineer changed that.
After he got to dig up my wrasse he kept harassing her... I found my wrasse dead, I'm blaming it on him. I will be fishing him out tomorrow, thanks.

Sorry for your loss. Blue stars are beautiful fish...

Get that goby out of there and take it to the LFS!!!

Best of luck, and keep us posted...
