Another 2 part Ca question

Need advice from anyone familiar with mixing their own 2 or 3 part calcium additives. I mixed up some calcium to make a 2 part calcium additive however I'm concerned with the results of part A. I purchased some Anhydrous Calcium which stated an ingredient of 95-97% anhydrous calcium and 3-5% moisture. When I mixed 2-1/2 cups of calcium with RO/DI water to make up one gallon, it took on a light brown color. Is this normal?

Out of concern I ran the mixture several times through some carbon but it only slightly reduced this dirty coloration. I've yet to dose this since it didn't look quite right.

It is named "Leslie's Hardness Plus" and is labeled as a Calcium Hardness Increaser for spas. I have read of many others using pool/spa calcium and I don't see anything listed for ingredients other than:
Calcium Chloride, Anhydrous - 97%
Moisture - 3%

When mixed it does have a redish dirty look once dissolved.
