Another rebel xti lenes question

Mr lucky
I just ordered a new xti, it has the standard kit lens. A friend of mine recomended the ef 50mm f2.5 compact macro as a good lense to start out with for tank shots. My question is my sister-in-law is getting married this spring. What would be a good lens to use for the wedding? It will be outside in a wooded area. Any help would be greatfull.

I heard alot about the kit lens being just an 'ok' lens so I went ahead and got a Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 macro zoom. It gets some pretty good reviews and I personally like it. A good all round lens and it will give you alot of diversity at an event like a wedding. I haven't seen the difference between this lens and the kit lens. But from what I read there is a noticeable difference in quality. Mine was a little over $420 from B and H Photo.

Hope that helps.

I would go for the 100mm macro instead of the 50mm. It'll give you a little more working distance inside that 240.

FWIW, I use mine for most of the portraiture that I do. It's great glass, and the 100mm length lets you really isolate the people you're shooting. You have to be a little farther away from them because of the lens length, but that can also be a good thing.

well i got a good deal on the 50mm. $200. shipped to my door. It takes a real nice pic. Its kinda slow and loud. But it does take a good pic. I will try to upload some pics i took with it when i get home.
