My rodi is installed before my house water filter and I have a dirty old well. I rent and land lord wont do a new well. My TDS meter will be here thurs/Friday so I really don't know what I have as far as TDS befor and after my RODI. Will installing a large residential filter help reduce TDS before it reaches the RODI or just remove sediment??

Best to have the well water tested and select a filter based on that. Dirty well could just mean sediment, but iron and lead could be present. Reminds me of Duece Bigalow, where he gives the bottled water to the fish, and drinks the crud from the faucet.

It's high in nitrates, iron and sediment. You can tast the iron!! I don't think there is any copper in it. I ussed to do planted FW tanks and I used to test the water before it went in the tank. I never got any copper. Never tested for lead though. There is no lead pipes. It's all black plastic outside the house and my RODI is installed right before the switch to copper pipes.

You should have the water tested as nap stated. You will need to move the feed line for the ro to the treated side of any filtration equipment in the house.Contact a local water treatment company and ask if they will test your water for iron ph calcium. If iron is present you will most likely need a water softener.Iron will shorten the life span of your ro filters.Good luck!

High iron and sediment will foul your filter faster, but 160 isn't too bad. I get 130 from my city water. A carbon pre filter would be ideal for taste and sediment.

I'm not really concerned with adding anything to my potable water, it already has a large sediment filter and a carbon filter under the sink. We cook with it bit don't drink it. Cats, dogs, bird and chinchilla all get bottled water, it comes free from work.
Im really just making sure my RODI is making good water efficiently. The resin doesn't seem to be quickly changing color anymore so I think it's looking up. I'm not sure why but the first 10 gallons I made faded the bottom 2 inches of resin from black to tan. I have made another 15 since then and I don't notice any further color change.
