Another skimmer question

My skimmer has been running about a week and a half and it is not collecting a thing yet,,BUT,, There is nothing in the tank but SW,No sand,Rocks,Nothing but power heads
I used RO/DI water mixed with IO salt. So can i assume the water is free from dissolved organics thus the skimmer has nothing to collect or is my skimmer not working properly.
I think that non RO/DI water would have some in it to collect when mixed with salt.
The skimmer is a Currentusa recirculating skimmer rated for a 225g tank. I do not think the recirculating pump is doing a very good job. It puts out fine bubbles but just not allot of them. I can see into my skimmer about 1/2in from top to bottom except where the top part turns to a cone shape and concentrates the bubbles.
I made the air hole bigger so it could suck more air but it made no difference. Anyone know where i could get a better needle wheel pump that might solve the problem?
Thanks
Pat

With nothing in the tank to produce organics, you can't really evaluate a skimmer's performance. When you add live rock you will see skimmate.

Thats what i think is happening also. I do know that with the amount of bubbles it is producing it is never going to produce much.

I'd hesitate upgrading the pump until you get the tank better stocked. Especially with an over-sized skimmer, you've likely got plenty of margin in performance, and I'd wait to judge until the tank has something in it.
