Anthias fin rot

I've been having this weird problem with some of my fish lately mostly just one anthias. It starts off as a little white thing on the tip of the pectoral fin and then the fins starts to rot and then stops and the fish recovers. It happens once in awhile. I don't think its ich as the white spot doesn't look like ich. It looks more clear and has a filament coming off the back of it. It's small about the size of ich but its not ich. Does anyone have any idea? could this be brooklynella?

Hi Ventralis321,

Judging by your description, that the white comes and goes, like heals itself on its own, I would susupect that your fish have Lymphocystis virus.

Also known by just Lymph it appears as 'fluffy' looking cotton patches on fins or worse like a growth on the face.

Its viral; thats why you see it coming and going..

do an image search, google, and see if that is what you are seeing.

Wow, thanks Hattie B. I believe you nailed it! I was doing a lot of changes to my tank and i must have disturbed my sand bed too much and may have released it into the tank. Or i feed small shrimp to my fish and it may have come in on them. My tank was pretty much going through a small cyling stage because of so many changes. Thanks for IDing i'll just let it run it's course.
