Anthias

Anthias are really nice fish. I have found that if one starts to get sick or week they usually do not make it. Found that out the hard way. I have never noticed any of the Anthias that I have had jump so I can not say that they do. Now a Wrasse they HIGH JUMP. I have a Scotts Fairy Wrasse that has jumped into the overflow 3 times and completely out of the tank. Finally I took so Enkamat ( PF4 ) and covered overflows and the back side of tank where it was open. I would strongly suggest doing that as well.

Thanks. yeah i had a fairy wrasse and he decided to leave the tank too but I found him too late. Which anthia variety do you have?

From all I've read about anthias (and I read alot) they're not known to jump but they eat a lot. To keep them healthy and thriving, you HAVE to feed them a variety of foods 2-3x a day. As 192clark said, if one is sick and weak the rest may not make it. BUT if you can get one eat in the beginning the rest will also join in. Don't let the scare you, the common aquarium anthias are fairly hardy (bartletts, dispar, lyretail, fancy bass to name a few).

I'll be keeping some in my upgrade they're awesome looking fish.

Good luck.

Great! I was thinking of placing an order tomorrow at Saltwater Fish so now all i have to do is decide what to get. It's always exciting adding someone new! -Rachel

So i finally decided to get one (a tricolor). I picked him up friday and he did eat at the stor and even ate some live brine for the next couple of days but today he won't eat! I have tried live brine, mysis, frozen brine and flake. Nope, nothing. He looks good and doesn't seem stressed. Any thoughts?

They can and will jump... don't let anyone kid you, but in my research it seemed to usually occur at night. So I cover my tank after the lights turn off as a precaution. They also do not need to be fed crazy amounts of food each day, and can be adjusted back down to a normal feeding schedule. Although I recommend feeding them 3-4 times per day for the first week or so, just to plump them up. Mine only are fed twice a day with the rest of the tank now.

The toughest part with Anthias in my opinion is the first few days. Often they are so starved by the time they get to you, that they will not take food, and were goners before you even dropped them in the tank.

I QT'd mine for 2 weeks in a mesh covered 20g long tank just to make sure they were eating, and healthy before I added them to the display.

They're actually very hardy fish once you get them established.
