Macro, or sponge? it is growing on a peice of dead coral I used for base rock in a low light area. It was not there three weeks ago. The appendages are also hollow, and tube like..:

I was not sure if it was a sponge, or an early stage macro... The speed it is growing, I thought maybe it was a macro, but it looks like a sponge....

The branchy looking structures appear to be hollow which might indicate that they are siphons of some sort. I've got some sponges which are funny, they grow like widfire then die back, then grow again.

I dont believe chrysophytes produce growth structures like what we are seeing in triggerjays pics. Chrysophytes are a single celled algae, and stick together to form long filaments or mats. triggerjays specimen appears to a have tube-like structures. I would suggest moving the pics to the Invertebrates forum and see what you get for answers there as well.

I vote for a sponge of some kind too. I used to have an orange sponge that would extend siphons that looked like those

I think it is a sponge. I've got the same thing on the undersides of some rocks, the same type of location where yellow sponge grows. I just can't get good pics of it. :)

Mine has been there for many months (after re-arragning rockwork) without much change.
