Any idea what type of shelled invert this is?

+1 to giant horse conch. Kinda neat to have one in your tank. Although, it's no good for anything on the menu lol. They can grow to 24 in across.

Yep, tough little bastards. They lived through cycling my tank and without food for a couple months. Found mine in S. Florida washed up on the beach. It was the color of a Cheeto.

The dual "knobs" say it's not a baby giant horse conch, but...other than the size, everything else they told you is pretty much true. It's a fasciolariid, like the horse conch, but it's most likely either a Latirus or Leucozonia species, depending on its origin. It will be a predator on other molluscs, in either case.

Horse conchs will probably not eat dead food....probably just have to kill him as he will starve anyway. :(

I hate collected liverock for this reason...so many needless deaths...

You could probably find someone who would be willing to keep it and feed it snails, it looks really cool. And you might as well test by giving it something dead.

Wow...Betta...that is pretty horrible...just cause snails are cheap, huh? :(

Agreed doesn't hurt to try dead meat...ummm stomatella is a snail, and they breed in an aquarium...maybe someone can breed stomatella for him? :)

It's either feed it snails or let it starve, I'm afraid.
Snails have a really simple body structure, including very simple nerves. It's likely that they don't experience pain, if that's the concern.

"Letting it starve" seems a bit cruel as well...would take awhile!!! Though I think I am barking up the wrong tree here for argument like that. Don't really care if you think they feel pain or not, or even if they do or not. It isn't just cruel...it is unsustainable. Continue to collect wild snails to kill them? Shame!

Either a freshwater dip or see if he eats stomatella. :)

LMSO Sorry puffy, but it's a snail-eat-snail world out there. You can't make the carnivorous ones eat algae, or dirt...and it really doesn't matter if it was in the wild eating snails, or if he caught them and fed them to it. Same effect. There is nothing immoral or cruel about feeding carnivores the food they require, and there is no moral high road to buying your meat at Kroger instead of killing it.

People like this should give up their homes, cars, and all modern possessions, then throw themselves off a cliff to save future animals from the horrible reality that is the human population.
