Any idea what's on this mushroom?

Any clue what this is? It almost looks skeletal

How does it feel to the touch? It might be some type of worm. The tube or shell that it lives in has somehow attached to the tissue of the mushroom or vice versa.

That's crazy looking. Take another picture later and see if it's in same position and same size. I'm guessing it's not motile.
That's actually a surprisingly good picture but hard to see. It could be dead tissue from a tear or debris in a wound. Very curious to see what it ends up being. You could try to get a syringe or baster and sneak attack the wound with a blast of water and try to blow whatever it is out before the shroom retracts.

I'll give it a blast of water. If it doesn't do anything I'll touch it. Whatever it is its inside the mushroom. It's in a little divot on the stalk. Mushroom seems happy as usual.

I pulled it out with some tweezers. Now it's ****ed. This thing has been through a lot so it should be okay

Looks like the mushroom is dividing and what is in view is the mushroom's "insides".
