Any Ideas

I don't have a picture yet, just asking for ideas. My Blackcap basslet suddenly got a cluster of white things on one side of its body. It's not ich. They look like white rings, less than or about 1 mm in diameter.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I'll try to get a pic, but he likes to stay on the opposite side of the tank that I am on so it is proving difficult.
