just trying to gauge user experiecnce with lps and tek lights.

id like to get an 8 bulber as itll give me the maximum flexibility with bulb combos, as well as give me the ability to upgrade and keep the fixture.

so, if you have stories, or pics, feel free to share

thanks

Let me start this by saying I don't have first hand experience. A friend of mine had a 4 bulb system over a 55, they said it was almost to much light. I don't know what size tank you are looking putting this over, but the smaller ones could be sufficient

i have an 8 bulb 36" tek fixture and love it i am running 2 6500k,3 actinic plus and 3 blue plus. very crisp blue/white color. my lps and shrooms are thriving. i have no new pics in my gallery to show this, but trust me you will be happy.

It will really depend on how deap the thank is. I've got 5x24W TEK T-5's over my 29gal. I've had to put a few of my LPS (mostly chalices) into very shaded corners or under rockwork to retain their colors. However, the two open brains that I have on the sand bed seem to be loveing life along with my CC that is about 1/3 up the tank. My FS is the the green with the purple/pink tips....it has gone to that yellowish green and does not inflate as much as it use to but still looks healthy. I've also got an unknown micro or favities that seems to do well under the new light, but reacts severly antime I try to incease the photoperiod on some of the bulbs.

all in all I think 8 bulbs is a bit much for LPS. I would just start off with 4 bulbs and add more if you think they can take it.

You can switch off a few of the bulbs if you don't need them. I run a 6X 54w on my prop tank/ I use 3 actinic plus, 2 actinic and one 10k in the far back. It gives great light & the corals all look killer.

If you want to run all 8 you can put in extra actinics and act. plus bulbs to add extra glow. IMO- one or two 10k's is more than enough for lps

Jen, how deep is the prop tank, and how high off the tank are the lights.
My tank is pretty shallow..maybe 15-16" from the lights to the top of the sand bed, and the lights are only about 2" off the surface of the water. I've been debating if I should raise the lights up a couple of inches or not...
