There are different grades of acrylic, even the best stock at HD or lowes will scratch very easy and be cheap. Ok, for say a divider or overflow box or something. But if you want to build a tank you need an acrylic that will not have a porous surface. This will not be visible to the eye but algae will find those imperfections and you will never be able to clean it. Thats why public aquariums acrylic can hold up to kids banging their heads on the window, rings, watches, ect.
I dont know about local, call SW or SEA. They make tanks I believe, maybe some one will give you the secret source. lol
